Cancer and Nanoproducts

Conventional cancer chemotherapy included the use of chemical agents which lacked selectivity and hence damaged the healthy cells along with the cancerous cell.The use of nanoparticles has revolutionized the field of cancer treatment. Especially the use of fluorescent quantum dots as a biomarker for the detection of the cancerous cell has opened up the horizons for research. The fluorescent quantum dots are able to produce high contrasting images at lower cost with higher efficiency but it has a downside, the material used for the manufacturing are mostly toxic.This session will focus on the influence of nanotechnology in treating cancer and the limitation associated with these nanoproducts.
